Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy

Also known as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, this arm of physiotherapy deals with the prevention and management of injuries resulting from activity and is not limited to sport. We do not only deal with pain and injury management, but also help athletes of all ages and abilities enhance their performance.

What is Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy?

Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy is the prevention and management of injuries resulting from sport and exercise participation at all ages and at all levels of ability. We do not only deal with pain and injury management, but also help athletes of all ages and abilities enhance their performance.

Why the need for Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy?

Injuries can occur as a result of a number of factors including over training, lack of conditioning or warm-up, accident, impact, poor training practices, improper equipment, to name a few.

Such musculoskeletal injuries are not limited to sports athletes. They also include injuries that come about from regular daily activities, for example, back pain, neck pain, or knee problems, that could result from long hours at work or simply a wrong sleeping posture.

Sports injury symptoms can come on immediately at the point of injury or may take a few hours or days to show. Musculoskeletal disorders and injuries include pain, weakness, stiffness and in some cases, inflammation can occur, causing pain, swelling, and limited movement.

When an individual gets injured the common response is to “push through the pain”, or rest and hope that the injury will go away. Without the right help, this could lead to longer-term problems.

What can I expect at my sessions?

Our physiotherapists first start with an assessment of the injury. This will include a comprehensive movement analysis and goal-setting.

Thereafter, we will chart the treatment plan keeping the end in mind: to get you back to the sport or activity that you love to do. Your treatment will integrate sport-specific exercises to restore and enhance your performance.

Visit us at our physiotherapy clinic, which is fully-equipped with strength and conditioning equipment to get you back to doing what you love and more!
